The 7th annual 2021 Metro Gathering Mega Event
was a huge success!!!
Visiting historic East Jersey Old Town Village you get into the Revolutionary spirit as we made the 2021 Metro Gathering Mega an American Revolution theme. East Jersey Old Town Village is comprised of sixteen reconstructed and replica 18th and 19th century structures that represent architecture typical of farm and merchant communities once found in the Raritan Valley. Buildings include a tavern, blacksmith shop, wheelwright shop, schoolhouse, barracks, church, the homes of early settlers, and other outbuildings.
Visitors can explore the site and meet the historical interpreters that bring the Village to life through their trades and crafts. A gateway site for the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area, situated along the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail, the Village offers awarding winning exhibits, living history, and seasonal programs.
FREE ADMISSION - Open Year-Round, excluding Holidays, Rutgers Football game days and Rutgers graduation
Historical Interpreters on-site April - October.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE DATED 1/1/2022
Looking back at the past few years, NNJC was busy with many events throughout 2019 which lead up to the 6th annual Mega Event at Waterloo Village in September 2019. The 2020 Mega event location was to move to East Jersey Old Town village, but unfortunately was cancelled due to
Covid-19.
As 2020 was a very difficult and different year we seemed to get through it with hope of trying to get back to a more normal time in 2021. The vaccines arrive on the scene and then the variants reared up their ugliness.
But, we we able to launch the exciting new New Jersey American Revolution Geocache Trail on 10/24/2020 at the Historic Dey Mansion, Washingtons HQ. This new passport program will take you on an amazing and historic journey across New Jersey! Information can be found at the dedicated website: NJPATRIOTS.ORG .
Unfortunately the 2020 pandemic has changed life as we know it with social distancing and quarantine. Events around the world we cancelled for safety as was the 2020 mega and many other nnjc events.
In 2021 we held the 7th Metro Gathering Mega ~ NJ American Revolution on August 7th 2021 which was a huge event at the new location, see video below. We also had a fun 2021 Halloween and Caching Through the Snow events this year!
The 2022 8th annual Metro Gathering Mega ~ NJ American Revolution ~ Washington Spies will take place on
June 18th 2022, See Metro Gathering link here.
Hopefully 2022 we will see the covid variants start to lessen their impact and we can get back to a new normal.
Stay tuned for upcoming 2022 events!
Be Safe and happy new year!

2019-2020 Hunting Season!
As if we don’t have enough to worry about: mosquitoes, ticks, poison ivy, snakes, muggles, falling off the sides of cliffs-- it’s hunting season! As I was searching for hunting schedules I found this extremely useful webpage on njhiking.com
This webpage covers all of New Jersey: https://www.njhiking.com/hiking-nj-during-hunting-season/. I would recommend reviewing it before leaving on your next trip into the woods.
Also, remember to wear bright colors especially blaze orange. You don’t want to mistaken for a deer.
Here’s another article with more suggestions during hunting season: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/2013/09/24/hiking-hunting-season-safety-tips/2854437/.
Keep safe out there!

After a 2 year hiatus, this annual event has been revived. The “Winter Picnic” was held at the Great Swamp Watershed Association's 73 acre Conservation Management Area (CMA) just off Harter Road in Morristown. There was more mud than snow but the mushy terrain did not stop the 40+ attendees from enjoying a campfire (complete with S’mores!), tasty hot cocoa, a geocache cake, and other treats. Everyone took home an NNJC bookmark created by 2nd Cup, Pip$queek and Speedy#1.
Roxbury Devil contributed to the fun with a St Patrick’s trivia game and he provided the prizes! Several new caches were published during our event and a large group headed out in a race for the FTFs. (Ok, really, it was a group thing. There was no pushing or shoving. Everyone shared the FTF. )
There might not have been a lot of snow but there was a lot of fun!
Thank you, Debbie Smith and Jen Kaufmann for all the event planning.

A Cuddle of Cachers
Bad weather didn’t stop a cuddle of geocachers from huddling in the Gazebo at Mountain Way Park on October 20. Ryclops’ event, Afternoon in the Park GC8E00C, went on despite the cold and drizzle. Fortified by snacks and warm apple cider, 29 geocachers descended on the gazebo, squished together, ate food, chatted about geocaching, swapped trackables and a few brave souls went in search of geocaches. Thank you Ryan for hosting another fun event! Visit the event page to see all the photos and read the logs. GC8E00C
